Dust is an interactive audio/video piece exploring a new relationship between new digital art and traditional Chinese cloth patterns.Hakka pattern is famous for its rich and colorful floral graphics. More and more young designers are fascinated by its characteristic and adopt Hakka pattern into fashion, interior and product design. Inspired by this Hakka re-discovery movement, I bring Hakka pattern to the digital world starting an experiment between the old and new generations.
An audience has to keep calm and patient to enjoy all 10 Hakka patterns. If any noise appears, the graphics will be disturbed and broken apart. The art of beauty will be replaced by a chaos of pixels. If the noise goes too loud, the whole image will be falling out of the frame. Hakka pattern will not come back until you show your respect of waiting in patience.
Dust was featured in Design-In show at Taipei Culture Center New York in June and Taipei Chini Gallery in September 2013.
